Minimum

Your call

You pick the days and campuses that fit your timetable. The classes are guaranteed, because the role is part-time permanent.

The tutor room

Join the team with the best culture

The tutor room, the group chat, the end-of-term dinner. Most tutors here are first and second years who did the same exams you did, a year or two earlier.

Where it goes

Endless opportunities to grow

The best thing about Contour is how far people grow inside it. Most of the people running things here started in a classroom, and a lot of them started as tutors.

Senior Tutor

Lead the harder classes and set the standard for the tutors around you.

Team Leader

Run a subject team or a campus. Lead the training & development of tutors by sitting in on their classes and running 1:1s.

Full Time

Curriculum development, leadership, deeper pathways with development & training, resources, or expansion to other teams at Contour.

Meet Sam.

One of our Methods team leaders and maths tutors. Plenty of tutors become team leads, run a campus, or write the workbooks the next cohort teaches from. Others tutor through their degree and leave with the best reference they'll ever have. Both are fine by us.

The Standard

We hire people who topped the subject and are passionate about teaching it

We assess hard, and we'd rather run one class short than put someone in front of Year 12s who isn't ready. If you're the person your friends messaged the night before the exam, we want to see you teach.

The bar

A 45+ raw study score (VCE), a Band 6 or E4 (HSC), or a 95+ subject result (QCE) in the subject you'll teach.

A 99+ ATAR gives you an advantage.

The process

Tell us your scores and subjects. Film yourself teaching a page of our workbook. Come in and teach a mock class.

The trade

Six or more classes a week across a full academic year, around 12+ hours. In return:

  • Paid training through Contour Tutor Academy
  • Someone watching your classes and telling you the truth
  • A room that expects you to be good
Eligibility

Do you have what it takes to join the best tutoring team?

Answer honestly. This doesn't go anywhere; it just tells you where you stand before you spend an evening on an application.

The raw score, not scaled. Expected score is fine if you're still in Year 12.
Optional. We care more about the subject score.
Six two-hour classes a week is the minimum for the tutor role. It's part-time permanent, so the classes are guaranteed.
Where you'd teach

Pick your state.

State
VIC
NSW
QLD

Victoria: come back and teach it.

Most of our VIC tutors sat in a Contour class two or three years ago. You know the workbook, the campus, the pace. Onboarding takes a week, not a term.

Where

Melbourne CBD, Box Hill, Glen Waverley, Bentleigh, Springvale, Narre Warren, and Point Cook. Epping opens in late 2026.

When

Classes for the 2027 program start 23 November. You can join whenever though, as our program runs year long.

Year 12?

Sign-up to be a tutor now. We'll put you through the process, and will have a conditional offer, pending your results, so you can start right away if you're successful.

New South Wales: be a founding tutor.

In January, three Sydney campuses open: Epping, Hurstville and Parramatta. Right now the rooms are empty. The people who fill them first get first pick of classes, first shot at leading a team, and their name on the wall for as long as we're there.

Where

Epping (near Macquarie), Parramatta (near WSU), Hurstville (train from UNSW and USYD).

When

Classes start 18 January. Assessment days in November, December and early January.

What you did

The HSC, recently, with a Band 6 or E4 in the subject you'd teach.

Queensland: get in early.

Queensland is one campus becoming two. Upper Mount Gravatt is running; Indooroopilly is next. The first fifty tutors in Brisbane shape how Contour teaches here for a decade.

Where

Upper Mount Gravatt now, Indooroopilly next.

When

Classes start 18 January.

What you did

The QCE, recently, with a 95+ result in the subject you'd teach.

FAQs

The practical stuff

Is it casual?

No. Tutors are part-time permanent team members with a guaranteed minimum number of classes each week. That's rare in tutoring and it's deliberate.

How many hours?

A minimum of 12 hours per week, across six or more two-hour classes, with the option to take on more, all the way up to full time - 38 hours per week.

For example, two classes on Monday, two on Tuesday and two on Saturday morning. Weeknights are 4:15 to 6:15 and 6:45 to 8:45; weekends run 10am to about 8pm, both days. You choose the days and campuses.

Do I need to be at uni?

No. Most tutors are first to third years, but gap-year and recent grads are welcome. What matters is that you did the exams recently and did them well.

What if I'm still in Year 12

Pre-register for the Tutor Pathway before exams. If you're under 18 we'll copy a parent or guardian in. A conditional offer is made once results are out, and you'd start after your assessment.

Do I need a working with Children Check?

Yes, in every state, and they don't transfer between states. Apply the day you get a conditional offer; it can take a few weeks. We'll walk you through it.

What's the non-compete?

All tutoring roles include one. We invest a lot in your training and ask you not to tutor for a competitor while you're with us. We'll explain the terms before you sign anything.

What's the pay?

Most tutors take home $130 to $220+ per two-hour class once bonuses are counted. The base is $90 to $140+ per class; assistant tutors are on $55 to $70. Super on everything, paid training, and a guaranteed minimum number of classes each week.

Are there any perks?

Super on everything, paid training, a $60 monthly wellbeing allowance, birthday leave, exam-study leave, novated leasing and an employee assistance program.
