Area of Study
Functions, Proofs and Complex Numbers
You'll begin by consolidating two foundational areas. Working through reciprocal circular functions, inverse trigonometric functions, rational functions, and formal proof techniques, you'll then move into complex numbers in depth. Topics include polar and rectangular forms, polynomial solutions over the complex set, and complex subsets defined by locus. Each topic is paired with an exam skills session.
Area of Study
Vectors and Vector Equations
A rigorous treatment of vectors and their applications. You'll cover vector fundamentals, linear dependence and independence, vector equations of lines, and applications of vector equations to geometric problems. By the end, you'll be able to find Cartesian and vector equations of lines, determine the relationship between lines in space, and solve problems involving vector geometry. Includes exam skills sessions throughout.
Area of Study
Differentiation and Integration
Advanced calculus techniques and their applications. You'll cover differentiation of implicit functions and related rates, a wide range of integration techniques including trigonometric integrals, and applications of integration including areas and volumes. By the end, you'll be able to differentiate and integrate a broad range of function types and apply calculus to solve complex geometric and physical problems. Includes exam skills sessions for each topic.
Area of Study
Differential Equations and Kinematics
Two deeply connected areas of mathematics. You'll develop the skills to set up and solve differential equations, apply Euler's Method, and model real-world phenomena such as Newton's Law of Cooling. You'll then apply these ideas to kinematics, working with position, velocity, acceleration, and vector functions to describe motion. By the end, you'll be able to solve a wide range of differential equations and apply vector calculus to motion problems.
Area of Study
Sampling and Hypothesis Testing
The statistics component of Specialist Mathematics. You'll cover sampling distributions, confidence intervals for population proportions, and hypothesis testing, including identifying null and alternative hypotheses and interpreting results. By the end, you'll be able to apply statistical inference techniques with precision and explain your reasoning clearly in exam-style responses.
Revision
Exam Preparation
A comprehensive end-of-year revision program covering all seven areas of study. You'll work through Functions and Proofs, Complex Numbers, Vectors, Differentiation and Integration, Differential Equations, Kinematics, and Sampling and Hypothesis Testing in a structured sequence before tackling full practice exams.
