Year 8 Mathematics (VIC)
Area of Study
Numbers and Algebraic Skills
You'll consolidate and extend your number and algebra skills. Working through operations with integers and fractions, decimals and percentages, rates and ratios, you'll then move into algebraic skills including expanding and factorising, index laws, negative indices, and scientific notation. By the end, you'll be able to write and manipulate algebraic expressions and apply index laws to a range of problems. Closes with a class assessment task.
Area of Study
Linear Algebra
A thorough treatment of linear equations and graphs. You'll solve multi-step linear equations, work with rules, tables, and graphs, apply gradient and intercept, and sketch linear graphs. You'll also explore real-world modelling and applications. By the end, you'll be able to solve linear equations algebraically, sketch and interpret linear graphs, and apply linear algebra to practical problems. Closes with a class assessment task.
Area of Study
Geometry
You'll develop your understanding of shapes, angles, and transformations. Topics include angles in polygons, reflection, translation, rotation, and congruence. By the end, you'll be able to find unknown angles using angle relationships, perform geometric transformations, and identify and apply the conditions for congruence. Closes with a class assessment task.

Measurement
A comprehensive treatment of measurement. You'll cover perimeter, circumference, area, surface area of prisms and cylinders, volume, and Pythagoras' Theorem. By the end, you'll be able to calculate perimeter, area, surface area, and volume for a wide range of shapes, convert between units, and apply Pythagoras' Theorem to right-angled triangles. Closes with a class assessment task.

AMC Preparation and Statistics and Probability
Five weeks of competition mathematics preparation covering numbers, measurement, combinatorics, and puzzles, including the Contour Maths Competition. You'll then work through Statistics and Probability, covering data interpretation, measures of centre and spread, theoretical probability, Venn diagrams, two-way tables, and multi-step experiments. Closes with a class assessment task.

End of Year Revision
A comprehensive revision program covering all areas of study, including Numbers, Algebraic Skills, Linear Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, and Statistics and Probability. Closes with a full End of Year Exam.
