Area of Study
Introduction to Cell Biology
You'll build your understanding of life at its most fundamental level — the cell. Starting from the principles of cell theory, you'll explore how cells are structured, how they divide, and what happens when that process goes wrong. By the end of this module, you'll be able to describe the structure of the plasma membrane and explain how substances move across it, compare prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell cycles, explain the process of apoptosis and how its malfunction leads to cancer, and identify the role of stem cells in tissue repair and differentiation. We wrap up with two dedicated revision weeks.
Area of Study
Regulation of Plant and Animal Systems
This module is where biology connects to living systems. You'll move through plant biology, animal organ systems, and the body's ability to regulate itself — a concept called homeostasis. By the end, you'll be able to explain how plants absorb and regulate water, describe the role of the digestive, excretory, and endocrine systems, explain how feedback loops maintain temperature, water balance, and blood glucose, and analyse what happens when these systems malfunction (including Type 1 Diabetes). We also cover Research & Investigation and Bioethics, and close out with a Term 1 Mock Exam Runthrough.
Area of Study
Genetics & Heredity
This module unpacks how traits are inherited and expressed. You'll explore DNA structure, chromosomes, and meiosis before moving into the mechanics of inheritance. By the end, you'll be able to explain the role of DNA and chromosomes in heredity, describe how meiosis creates genetic diversity, predict outcomes using monohybrid and dihybrid crosses, and interpret pedigree charts for autosomal and sex-linked traits. Wraps up with two revision weeks and a Term 2 Mock Exam Runthrough.
Area of Study
Ecosystems
The final content module zooms out from the individual organism to the broader environment. You'll examine reproductive strategies, how species adapt to survive, and how organisms depend on each other. By the end, you'll be able to describe asexual and sexual reproductive strategies, explain how adaptations arise through natural selection and genetic diversity, describe ecosystem relationships including trophic levels, and discuss Indigenous perspectives on ecological knowledge and land management. Closes with two revision weeks.

Exam Preparation
A dedicated exam prep block covering all four areas of study. You'll work through structured revision sessions for each AOS — Cell Theory & Plasma Membrane, Apoptosis & Stem Cells, Plant & Animal Systems, Homeostasis, Meiosis & Chromosomes, and Patterns of Inheritance — before completing a full Mini Exam under timed conditions.

Do I need to bring my own resources, or does Contour provide everything?
